What is Memory Disco?

Memory Disco is a fully functional mobile discotheque that comes to YOU. But unlike a conventional disco, we bring a specialist service that provides entertainment, interaction and cognitive stimulation for people living with dementia.

How does it work?

Memory Disco provides activities that can be adapted to the needs or wishes of the group. This often includes quizzes where people are invited to ‘name that tune’ after hearing the introduction, or ‘spot the odd one out’. We also use film music and TV themes which can help bring back memories which people may not have thought about for many years. People may like to talk about their favourite tracks and the memories they help to bring back. Sometimes we simply play good music so that people can sing along or dance!

What sort of music is used?

We offer a wide range of music to cater for all tastes. Usually a session will include a good selection of different genres from across the decades. Types of music include funky, boppy, soul, country, rock ‘n’ roll, rock, punk, heavy metal, reggea, jazz, film & TV soundtracks and classical. Music spans from the 1920s to the present day. For a younger group living with early onset dementia, music from 1960s and 1970s – the Golden Age of Disco – is greatly enjoyed.
